Jeter...On the Issues
Jobs:  Believes our top priority should be bringing new, quality jobs and expanding current job
opportunities in our District.  His experience in industrial recruitment provides the knowledge
necessary to actively seek job growth and opportunities.  Will work with state, local and private
groups to recruit companies that provide jobs that meet the local needs.

Economic Stimulus / Taxes:  Believes we should lower taxes to help small businesses keep
more of their income and promote job creation.  Wants to give existing industries access to
similar incentives as new industries.   Strongly believes that the tax cuts expiring in 2010 should
be permanent and would like to cut corporate tax rate to 25%.  Will work diligently to reduce
inefficiencies and careless spending in government.

Iraq:  Acknowledges we went to war in Iraq based on faulty intelligence system.  Opposes
scheduling a troop withdrawal.  Realizes we must finish the fight to ensure no safe haven exists
for terrorists who would then have access to vast amounts of money from Iraqi oil.  Believes we
will have to engage in fight with terrorists there or we will end up fighting terrorists here in the
United States.

Immigration:  Knows that our borders are broken and must be fixed now.  Supports border
fence and high technology surveillance.  Supports plan to have much of the border fence built
by 2011 and to also have a major increase in border patrols.  Believes increased numbers of
workers’ visas, with strong enforcement of these visas, will lessen the impact on US
businesses.  Believes that people who come to our country must respect and abide by our laws,
embrace our values, and follow established rules to become American citizens.

Social Security:  Supports continuing current benefits for those already receiving benefits.
Supports a bipartisan approach to ensure that the Social Security program remains healthy.

Healthcare:  Believes the United States has one of the best quality healthcare systems in the
world, and is accessible to most.  Strongly believes that healthcare should be available to all.
However, does not believe in a government run national healthcare system.

Housing:  Believes that people should honor their obligations and financial commitments.
Supports helping homeowners facing foreclosure if they are "legitimate borrowers" and not
speculators.  Will consider well-reasoned legislation designed to curb irresponsible lending /
borrowing practices and conflicts of interest within the lending industry.

Education:  Believes teachers should be allowed to teach and not have to "police."  Supports
more teachers in the classrooms, not as administrative positions.  Favors parental choice of
schools when approved by local officials and right of parents to choose home schooling.

Pro-Life:  Believes all life is sacred and should not be terminated except in extreme cases such
as rape, incest or danger to the life of the mother.

Death Penalty:  Supports death penalty.

Gun Control:  Supports an individual’s right to own guns as protected by the 2nd
Amendment.  Supports background checks for gun buyers, as the law requires.

Veteran’s Benefits:  Believes military personnel that risk their lives to protect our rights and
freedoms as Americans should be compensated appropriately, in terms of superior health
benefits, and enhanced bereavement benefits.  Has two pieces of legislation ready to introduce
to address these issues:  Reservists and National Guard Military Deployment Dependents Act
& Active Service Bereavement Pay Act.

Trade:  Supports trade agreements that are favorable to the United States.  Advocate of trade
that is “fair,” without foreign government subsidy or manipulative pressures that will purposely
endanger US industries.  Blames China's currency manipulation and weak US regulatory
enforcement for imbalance in trade. Believes strongly that the passage of CAFTA hurt the 4th
Congressional District and was the wrong decision.

Energy Independence:  Believes the US should accelerate efforts in conservation and
alternative and renewable energy sources.  These sources include hydroelectric, wind, thermal,
solar, biofuel and landfill gas.  Realizes that in the near future fossil fuels - coal and gas - are
required and beyond that, nuclear energy will be the only way to meet our energy demands.

Climate Change:  Believes the earth is a living planet unique in the universe.  It has always
been warming or cooling.  Believes we are now in a modest, but not catastrophic, warming
period.  Provides opportunity to develop new, sustainable energy technologies.

Cuba:  Believes the time may be right to explore ways to renew talks with Cuba.  But, Cuba
must make additional strides in restoring human rights, free speech and a move towards some
form of representative government before official positions on Cuba change.
